Transportation and arrival
Your adventure begins in the small river town of Sierpe, where you can safely leave your vehicle in a secure parking area. From there, we will pick you up by boat and take you through the mangroves to Sabalo Lodge. The boat journey is part of the experience. Along the way, you may spot crocodiles, monkeys, toucans, herons, and many other inhabitants of the tropical wetlands. Your arrival in Sierpe and departure time must be arranged at least 24 hours in advance. Boat transfers for this package are usually available between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. At the end of your stay, we will take you back to Sierpe by boat. Departure times from Sabalo are adjusted according to tides and your onward travel plans. Return transfers are typically available between 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM and can be arranged during your stay. Guests who prefer to arrive by their own 4x4 vehicle may do so by prior arrangement. However, due to the nature of the route, we highly recommend the boat transfer, which is the first step into the world of mangroves, rainforest, and the wild beauty of Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula.

Accommodations
Your package includes accommodation in a glamping tent surrounded by tropical rainforest. Each tent features comfortable beds, a private bathroom, a spacious terrace, and the privacy needed to relax after a day of adventure in the jungle. The accommodations are thoughtfully spread throughout the property, allowing every guest to enjoy their own peaceful corner of the rainforest and the tranquility of the surrounding nature. Wake up to the sounds of tropical birds, spend your days watching monkeys, scarlet macaws, and toucans, and fall asleep to the rhythms of the jungle. At Sabalo Lodge, you can experience life immersed in nature without giving up the comfort you appreciate after a day of exploration.

Food
The package includes daily breakfast and one main meal per day, prepared from fresh local ingredients. At our restaurant, we focus on home-cooked meals, fresh produce, and a welcoming atmosphere. All meals are prepared on-site, and we are happy to accommodate vegetarians, vegans, and guests with special dietary requirements. After a day of exploring the jungle, enjoy your meal surrounded by nature and unwind in the peaceful atmosphere of Sabalo. It is a chance to slow down, relax, and enjoy a side of Costa Rica that is becoming increasingly rare.

Special care
At Sabalo Lodge, we believe that a stay in the jungle can be both adventurous and comfortable. Our restaurant and bar are available throughout your stay, offering additional meals, light snacks, fresh fruit juices, coffee, and a selection of drinks whenever you need them. The water at Sabalo is safe to drink. Guests who prefer filtered water can have their bottles refilled in the kitchen upon request. If you bring your own food or beverages, we will be happy to provide a cooler box for your accommodation after your arrival. For additional comfort, our glamping tents can be equipped with air conditioning for an extra fee, helping to reduce temperatures during the warmest hours of the day. A special part of the Sabalo experience is our local guides. They have spent most of their lives in the surrounding rainforest and know its wildlife, plants, and hidden details better than anyone else. Thanks to their experience, you will often discover things that most visitors would simply walk past. Guests can also enjoy the swimming pool, kayaks, table tennis, and other facilities designed to make their stay in the jungle both relaxing and memorable.

Program
Day 1 – Into the Jungle Your adventure begins in Sierpe, where you will board a boat and travel through the mangroves to Sabalo Lodge. Along the way, keep an eye out for monkeys, toucans, herons, crocodiles, and many other inhabitants of this unique ecosystem. After arriving at the lodge, settle into your accommodation and enjoy your first moments surrounded by rainforest. After dark, you will join a guided night walk and discover a completely different side of the jungle. Frogs, insects, reptiles, and other nocturnal creatures come to life once the sun goes down. Day 2 – Deep in the Rainforest After breakfast, it is time for the main adventure of your stay. Choose between a hike into the mountain rainforest with waterfalls or a horseback ride along jungle trails. Both experiences take you far beyond the usual tourist routes and into the wild heart of the Osa Peninsula. After returning to the lodge, relax on your private terrace, observe the surrounding wildlife, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest. Day 3 – A Day in the Rhythm of the Jungle Your third day is dedicated to exploring Sabalo at your own pace. Walk the trails through primary rainforest, watch scarlet macaws, toucans, and monkeys around the lodge, take a kayak out on the water, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the jungle. This is your opportunity to experience the rainforest the way locals know it – without schedules, without crowds, and without rushing from one attraction to another. Guests who wish to add even more adventure can choose from optional activities such as Corcovado National Park, fishing trips, private beach excursions, and other experiences. Day 4 – Return to Civilization After breakfast, enjoy your final moments in the rainforest and listen to the sounds of the jungle waking up around you. Later, you will return by boat to Sierpe and continue your journey through Costa Rica.

Important information
Sabalo Lodge is located in the heart of the tropical rainforest. We recommend bringing comfortable outdoor clothing, closed-toe shoes for excursions, and a light rain jacket or poncho. For safety reasons, access to the jungle after dark is only permitted with a guide. This helps protect both our guests and the surrounding wildlife. Guests are welcome to explore the lodge’s rainforest trails independently during the day. Before setting out on a longer walk, we recommend informing a member of our team about your planned route. Wi-Fi access points are available in several areas of the property and along selected trails. Mobile phone coverage may be limited or unavailable in some parts of the rainforest. A small local store offering basic groceries and everyday essentials is located approximately 800 meters from the lodge.
