Picture tour of the town of Sierpe

The town of Sierpe is where travelers go to do a tour of the mangroves or catch a boat taxi to travel on to Drake Bay which includes Corcovado National Park and Caños Island. This is also where you can catch a boat taxi to get to our favorite place Sabalo Lodge. Depending on your itinerary you may have to spend the night in Sierpe or have a few hours to kill until the boat taxis are ready to depart. Below is a picture tour of this little port town to help orient you and give you some suggestions on places to eat or sleep.

As you come into town you will see a fork in the road. Stay straight to get to the center of town.

You will notice Cabinas Sofia on the left of this picture. This is a Tico owned hotel, very nice and clean with good prices. Air conditioning and TV are available.

When you get to the center of town you will notice the road goes straight or left. At this junction to the left is an orange building. This is the local medical center. If you have any medical issues you can stop in here for medical assistance.

Continue straight and to the right of the school bus in the picture is a great store El Fénix to stock up on any supplies you might need.

Take the second left after the school bus in the picture and you will end up at the most happening place in town, the famous Las Vegas restaurant.

The Las Vegas restaurant is located right on the Sierpe river with a great patio to eat on while you watch the boats and floating water hyacinth plants cruise by.

You will find a mix of locals and tourists as well as expats living in Sierpe frequenting the place. The food is traditional Costa Rican cuisine and the atmosphere is always alive. If you need anything just speak with our friend Jorge, the owner of the Las Vegas restaurant. He is a great guy and he will help you if he can. This is usually where you can find him with the phone in his hand or in his ear. He always seems perpetually busy but he's never too busy to help a customer. Here’s another shot of the inside of the restaurant. Las Vegas also has a wonderful gift shop and tourist information center.

If you prefer something a little more quiet and also on the river then just down the road from the Las Vegas restaurant is the Serena hotel and restaurant.

They offer Costa Rican cuisine and have one of the nicer places to stay in town. The prices are competitive but on the higher end.

The Serena also offers secure parking if you need to park your rental car for a few days while visiting Drake Bay.

PIZZA! If you're looking for great pizza or italian food then this is the place to eat. Sierpe is fortunate enough to have an awesome chef that has set up shop in this sleepy little town. When you are heading into town instead of making a left to go to the Las Vegas Restaurant make a right. On the right side a few buildings down you will see this place, Pizza Y Pollo. Whenever we are in town picking up supplies we get pizza to go. The food is yummy and well priced.

Sierpe is a small port town centered around a park in the middle of town. This is the basic tour. You can find little shops and tourist information in several places in town and all are well marked.
